Ep. 4 - Acting Resume, Cover Letter, Bio

Hey guys hope. You all had a very productive week getting your headshots done or at least planning and scheduling as session with a photographer so. This week I'll be talking about building a resume cover letter and bio so. I brought some of just a copy of my own resume. That I use and I have two of them. Because before. I got an agent. I was helped represented and I was submitting myself for indie films and student productions as well so. This is how. It looks I got my name on the top my little hat shot over there in a box.

That put my contact info on the bottom just height/weight on some of my measurements then. I put my film experience and the first column. You just put project's name then. Whether it was a lien or supporting part or just an actor's rule and I'm the third column. You would put the production's name or directors need then. I have music videos I've done training for training in the first column. You would put like. Whether it was acting on camera or scene study class or voice training improv class stuff like. That and in the second column. You would put the studio. You did it in order to school yeah so for special skills put. It usual on bottom and that would be languages. That you speak or accent. That you can make or just. Something ridiculous.

That you can do such as driving what type of license. You have and swimming biking I do for instance like for me it's figure skating acrobatic stunts and rollerblading just. Something ridiculous like. That that you can do. That can be used in the film let's say clean volleyball or soccer and on the bottom. You put TV commercials. If you've done. Any and people actors are usually asked just to put available upon request and if you're auditioning for something they will ask. You for conflict. If there is any and the one right the other resume.

That I have is one from my agent and these templates use agents have their favourite syllables just sent. You one and you'll have to edit your resume to suit their their preference and for my is just. I have my it's pretty much the same thing just your name agency's logo height and weight you're the films. That you've done to eat music videos training special skills TV commercials again available upon request and you're on the bottom or wherever your agent wants. It to be just their contact info. I always want to keep. It one page. Because it's it's a digital copy. You don't want people to be scrolling down and get. It you just want. It to be one nice page so. They go boom boom boom just put the most important things there and that's it and you'll notice.

When you're just starting out. You won't probably have. That much experience or you'll have. None so just put your special skills and your training and that's about it and as. You gonna be doing many projects and just keep editing your resume and resume and yeah just go from there and later on is you gonna keep lending bigger projects small ones you'll just keep getting rid of them and because. You want your resume to be. One page only for cover letters.

That would be. Something usually to three sentences and you just hate hi thank you so much for reviewing my submission and maybe. You just want to put. One sentence why you think you'll be good for the role. That you'd like Todd to support a for bio. That would be also. You don't want to make a huge thing about it and just put two to three paragraphs just tell them a bit about yourself your experience your special skills and project. That you've done done. Any and training and what made. You become an actor so guys. This is it for today thank you so much for watching please don't forget to Like comment share and subscribe add. Me on your snapchat. You haven't already it's Margherita underscore actor I'll be posting more videos and pictures on how to build your resume cover letter and bio next week we'll be talking about how to put together a demo reel stay tuned and I'll see. Resume Tips: The Best Cover Letter for an Executive Resume 1

Hi Tammy Cobell here founder and CEO of career resume consulting and today I'd like to give. You some real quick advice about cover letters. This is going to be a real quick video. You know compared to some of my other videos. However it could really change up your executive job search very quickly and it's about cover letters. I don't want. You to do them they take two to three hours to put together and according to whatever study. You might read anywhere from 75 to 83 percent of people. That you send. It to do not. Even read it they throw. It away so don't waste. That effort don't waste.

That time doing it here's what I have found and what I have told my clients to do over and over and it has proven to get a much much better response rate in other words people are calling them back at a much higher rate. They were doing cover letters prior to working with. Us and that is write a handwritten note in the margin of your resume so let. Me explain what I like to do is write a resume. That is functional based and if you've listened to any of my other videos you've seen. That I like a functional format. That is one page. However there's really no room on that one-page resume to write a handwritten note that's quick. That might take five minutes versus the two hours of cover letters or that a cover letter might do so. What I do is I take. That one-page resume and I reformat. It to give it a two inch left margin. Now of course. You could do. This on the right but people read from left to right and so.

You want to put. It on the left hand side. I believe and reformat. That you've got a two inch margin. That actually brings the career summary and possibly the last achievements paragraph down to a second page but that's okay. Because I recommend sending it hardcopy and when. You do send in hardcopy people will read. Both pages however. You do want. That two inch margin so. That you can write a handwritten note. I recommend copying it off in black and white printing it off in black and white. Because it's cheaper and then using a blue pen on the left hand side to write a handwritten note and here's what I want. You to write so. This is the point. You get out a piece of paper and a pen and you take notes okay in the two inch margin.

You to write dear first name. That would be the first name of the person you're sending it to what I would recommend is you send. It to the person. That would be your boss. You were to be employed in the company. That you're sending it to in other words send. This proactively. Whether or not there's a job available so there's two different situations. That you would send. This you would send. It for companies. That you would want to work for and you would also send. It for companies. That just have. Some good news about them in the Business Journal. Because they're. More likely to be hiring because they're growing so I'll explain. What you want to write in the two inch margin in that case but the first case. Where you've been looking at the company and you want to send your resume there.

What you'll say is dear first name you'll find that person in LinkedIn do your first name comma newline I've been researching your company and I would love to talk with. You about joining your team period please call. Me this week period sincerely comma your first name it's very short very simple. I do not want. You to use this two inch margin as a handwritten cover letter. You go on and on trying to sell yourself this is not the time to do. That you simply want to tell them very quickly why you're reaching out to them and what you want them to do okay so let. Me repeat that it's dear first name I've been researching your company and I would love to talk with. You about joining your team period please call. Me this week period sincerely your first name. You notice I use the word love in there which is a pretty strong word but what I found in and this is a marketing technique is that. You use strong emotive words like love. You get a better response rate so again.

Portfolio Project: Cover Letter & Resume

I missed hi. Everyone this is Miss Jackson I'm sitting here with fifth period again. All right here's a refresher on your project or maybe the long version. Because I probably gave. You the short version today so you'd have. More time to work hint hint yes Christian says yeah. All right so here is the template for your cover letter just open. That baby up before. I go on with. That notice. It says show fewer attachments your screen will look like. This be sure to click show two. More attachments. Now your cover letter let's open.

That baby up open and here. We go your name and address will go in this area for the date. You can click insert date and time full date. That looks so much more professional update automatically. You don't have to do the date over and over and over and over and then delete the rest of that boom the company. You want the person who's in charge or the manager the company. You want to work for and the address and everything that you found yesterday yes. You did that dear. That person earase type. What you have to say here erase what's unnecessary say. I want to work. It for this company for this reason and these are my skills the position I'm interesting in is this delete. This you don't need commas here or a comma here or a colon it's open punctuation and leave space to sign your name erase.

This line type your name leave Dobby student there just erase. It says title such as and erase. This initial section. You type a letter for somebody else you'll put your initials there but if you're typing the letter for yourself just erase. This whole section so remember erase what's unnecessary and now for your other document your resume. All right here erase highly-skilled and type your name type your address here and phone with a professional sounding email address do not have Snoop Dogg or Hello Kitty at yahoocom. It has to be professional sounding the job. You want who you are and why you want. It key skills your skills.

What are you good at list your academics. What courses did. You take here. What special courses will help. That job experience. What have you done. You haven't worked at all you can just erase. This whole section dobby high school and when. You expect to graduate did. You get on a roll did. You get awards do. Anything special in ROTC football soccer and listen. That stuff here alright so. You have that done and safe put. It in your portfolio folder and then be sure. That you proofread.
